Hiflex™ is a hardened and tempered martensitic stainless steel, specifically designed for compressor valve applications in air conditioning and refrigeration systems. It is alloyed with copper, offering a unique combination of high strength and ductility, excellent surface finish, and superior wear resistance.
Hiflex™ is used in industries such as HVAC, refrigeration, automotive, aerospace, and industrial manufacturing, where high-performance compressor valves are essential.
New compressors incorporating Hiflex™ have achieved an average 18% energy efficiency improvement in 1.5 HP AC units from 2022, compared to models manufactured before 2012, according to interviews with three major RAC suppliers in China. This corresponds to annual CO₂e savings of 437 800 tonnes if 7,2 million new 1.5 HP AC units with Hiflex™ replace older units, manufactured before 2012 in the Chinese market, assuming AC units are used on average 518.5 hours per year.
Based on rotary compressor (type predominantly used in AC applications) sales and market data, energy efficiency estimations, and Alleimas market share for valve steel. Assumed average lifespan of 15 years per 1.5 HP AC unit, the average replaced AC unit in China 2022 was manufactured before 2012, and 50% of China's installed AC stock consists of 1.5 HP RAC units.
All emissions calculations presented are limited to Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions and selected upstream scope 3 emissions where applicable. These calculations focus on direct emissions from combustion and indirect emissions from electricity consumption. Scope 3 emissions—including upstream fuel production, transmission losses, and lifecycle impacts from manufacturing, maintenance, and disposal—are generally excluded, except in specific cases where upstream material production is explicitly accounted for.
