Sanmac® 316L is a molybdenum-alloyed austenitic chromium-nickel steel designed for improved machinability and enhanced corrosion resistance. This grade is ideal for a wide range of industrial applications, including machined parts like fittings, flanges, and components for valves and pumps.

Sanmac® 316L has a lower carbon footprint than benchmark products, achieved through higher scrap content and efficient production processes utilizing a superior energy mix. This results in reduced cradle-to-gate CO2e emissions.

By adopting Sanmac® 316L, industries can achieve significant CO2e savings, with an estimated 44,000 tonnes saved annually.

Savings estimated based on Alleima doubling its annual sales of Sanmac 316L in Europe, reaching an additional 4,900 tonnes per year—replacing approximately 3,185 tonnes of Europe-sourced material and 1,715 tonnes of Asia-sourced material. Based on verified Cradle-to-Gate LCA for Sanmac 316L and simulations of production of similar materials sourced from other regions using GaBi software. Assuming the increase is no limitation in production capacity from Alleima. Also assumes a European sourcing distribution of 65% from Europe and 35% from Asia, based on estimates from key Alleima distributors.

All emissions calculations presented are limited to Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions and selected upstream scope 3 emissions where applicable. These calculations focus on direct emissions from combustion and indirect emissions from electricity consumption. Scope 3 emissions—including upstream fuel production, transmission losses, and lifecycle impacts from manufacturing, maintenance, and disposal—are generally excluded, except in specific cases where upstream material production is explicitly accounted for.
