Opportunities and challenges in comparing life cycle assessments (LCA) and how electric process gas heaters enable fossil-free DRI. These were the two topics Alleima and Kanthal presented at The Green Steel World Conference and Hydrogen Tech World Expo & Conference in Dusseldorf on May 13 – 14. The event brought together experts and decision-makers to discuss the latest developments in the companies and the decarbonization of the industry.

The Green Steel World Conference is the leading event for professionals, researchers, and innovators driving the future of sustainable steel production. It’s a global platform for sharing knowledge, exploring cutting-edge technologies, and shaping a greener future for the industry. The production of green hydrogen will play an essential role in a climate-neutral economy in almost all available scenarios. The Hydrogen Tech World Exhibition and Conference in 2025 is a platform for all participants in the global hydrogen production supply chain.
At Alleima, sustainability and circularity are an integral part of the operations. This year Alleima had two speakers on site. Marcus Hillbom, Business Development Manager, Tube EMEA, talked about LCA and why it can be difficult to understand and compare data from different materials producers. He also gave some tips on what questions one should ask to do a self-assessment. Peter Dömstedt, Project manager, Kanthal Division, talked about how to electrify the industry to reduce CO2 emissions and also achieve greater energy efficiency. Alleima has recognized sustainability as a success factor for competing within its industries.
“Alleima has built a product portfolio that has made the company a pioneer in the industry, with products and solutions that contribute to sustainability. Sustainability is an integral part of our strategy and is of crucial importance to the society around us as well as to our customers. In order to transparently show Alleima’s customers that the products have a low impact, we started to implement Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) from 2024. This will eventually be a standard feature for most of our products and help our customers make informed decisions”, says Marcus Hillbom.
Alleima has a portfolio of more than 900 active alloy compositions for processing in various niche applications. Some examples that contribute to the renewable energy sector are tubular products for solar power, carbon capture and storage and hydrogen refueling stations. The seamless steel tubes for the energy, chemical and aerospace industries help reduce environmental impact.
Products such as bipolar plates made of coated strip steel are the most critical component in a fuel cell engine, and compressor valve steel increases the energy efficiency of compressors for white goods or air conditioners. Solutions for on-site coiled tubing for “zero waste”, continuous installation at hydrogen fueling stations and in industry. Alleima ultrafine wires for medical and micro-electronic devices can improve and save people’s lives.
